When looking into alpaca ownership answering the following questions may help you to decide if they are for you?

1. What do you want to achieve with alpacas, and where do you want to end up in 2, 5 10 years time?
2. Do have suitable pasture, and if so is it fenced to suite alpacas, is there free and easy access to fresh water?
3. Are there any planning issues regarding change of use?
4. Is there easy access for vehicles and people to access the fields safely, sight lines, off road parking?
5. Are there public foot paths or Bridal Ways which will hinder the safe keeping of your alpacas?
6. Have  looked into the keeping of alpacas and what is required to keep them healthy?
7. Are you bale to give them a healthy home for the duration of their lives which can be up to 20 years? 
8. Are able to handle the animals and carry out the routine tasks that are required to keep them well yourself or will you need to bring in out side help. If so is it available or will you have to wait until they are avialable to get assistance? Having to wait may not be ideal, as events do occur that require immediate attention.
9. What Style of alpaca do you want, Huayaca (wukiya) or Suri (Soori)
10. What gender, Male or Female this may be governed by how much you have to spend?
